With no hope on the present generations' abilities to keep up with the "slang kannada" genre, I have taken up the task of de-mystifying few closely related slang usages in this post. Here it goes.
You should have heard:

1) ನಿನ್ನ ಚೌಡಿ ಬಿಡಿಸ್ಬಿಡ್ತಿನಿ
2) ನಿನ್ನ ಚಮ್ಮಡಿ ಸುಲಿದ್ಬಿಡ್ತಿನಿ
3) ನಿನ್ಗೆ ಹಿಡ್ದಿರೊ ಚೆಳಿ ಬಿಡಿಸ್ತಿನಿ

you could have heard the above usages at the following instances
1) when an elder person is ranting in your family, like your ಶೆಡ್ಕ or ನಾದಿನಿಯ ಸೊದರಮಾವನ ಬದರಯಣ ಸಂಬಂಧ
2) your PT mestru (ಮೇಷ್ಟ್ರು) using it to erase off your senses from your ಬುರುಡೆ
3) a police man using this before interrogation

the basic difference between these sentences are that you use them in the following instance:
1) ನಿನ್ನ ಚೌಡಿ ಬಿಡಿಸ್ಬಿಡ್ತಿನಿ is used when you want to 'indicate' (just wish to do so) that you want punish the one in question
2) ನಿನ್ನ ಚಮ್ಮಡಿ ಸುಲಿದ್ಬಿಡ್ತಿನಿ is used when you want to indicate that you really want to harshly punish,like met out corporal punishment to the one in question but just do that by venting out your anger
3) ನಿನ್ಗೆ ಹಿಡ್ದಿರೊ ಚೆಳಿ ಬಿಡಿಸ್ತಿನಿ is the sentence used when you want to get rid of irking 'attitude'( ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿ) of the one in question

I hope this enlightenment gyan on colloquial lounguage helped you to understand and use kannada in a better way!

The markets are doing good. Everybody would want to take advantage of it, especially if you are a big shot! So here is a DIY recipe for a Telugu movie in sure to succeed steps!

Characters you need:

A Male lead, with a great, rich, politically strong lineage
An (atleast 30%) Attractive female lead. No preferences on regionality , political affiliation, doesn't matter if she cant understand/speak the language
A sidekick to the Male lead, no compromises here, choose industry certified actors
Free to choose any number of villain characters. But make sure each's last name is 'Reddy' and also they are pedophiles and/or misogynistic
Make sure to sign up 'Mummaith Khan' for Item/Semi-cabarets
Father / Mother roles based on the plot

Plot/Story line:

Make sure some plots/story line does take place in 'Rayalaseema'(This is a must)
Do not worry about 'Logic' in the movie, after all you are not a 'Vulcan'!
The Male lead should have the Power to have any Power he wants! Like all the powers of X-Men, Justice league, Tintin..... , any and every power!
Fit in as many fight scenes, although it goes without saying the Male lead should win all the time
Since you signed up 'Mummaith Khan', Do not forget to put in the Item/Semi-cabarets
Not to forget the female lead, put in as many songs(commercial duets, shot in phaarign) you want (based on your budget)
Make the run length of the movie as 3 hours min, else audience will be left dis-satisfied
Then juxtapose all the sequences, come up with a very commercial title for the movie
Voila! You have a commercial Telugu movie ready! Rest of the procedures required to market it, keep it alive in the box office etc is out of scope of this post!

How to make others believe you are in a job(and to make them jealous)

Ok, assuming that you got into a job (or even if you didn't) after college and made necessary status updates on Facebook, its time for you to show them that you *really* are in a job(or atleast make them believe)! So here are some tips to do that:

1. Take photos of you along with your group, in front of your company hoarding(obviously)

2. Put up photos of the hotel/suite where you were hosted/inducted 

3.Next, take photos while you were training and also dont forget to mention how you played Counter Strike after the training! 

4. Put up photos of you and your group's celebrations after the training(with cake etc etc)

5.The most important part: Take photos of you along with your colleagues with your ID card leashed and flashing around your neck!

6. After few weeks, put up photos of your team's outing and update how amazing the trip was on Facebook.

7. All through mention in chat/FB statuses how you stayed back and worked on weekends!

All these steps are time tested and proven to succeed in making your other frenemies(friend cum enemies) jealous!

However, please note that these are chronologically stated activities of a newly hired graduate!

How to convert *.rm to mp3 on Ubuntu

This is yet another HOW to on converting Real Media files in *.rm format to mp3 format.

Step 1: copy and paste this text in a file and save it as 'rm2mp3' w/o the quotes

Step 2: Change permissions to execute the file. Do the command :

$./rm2mp3 filename.rm

Where filename.rm is the input file.

Step 4: The folder that had the *.rm file has the converted mp3 file.

Step 5: Enjoy listening!

How to convert wma files to mp3 on Ubuntu

Do you sync your iPod/iPhone with Rhythmbox/Amarok on Ubuntu and grouse about the lack of auto conversion capability of Windows media audio(*.wma) files to mp3 in Rhythmbox?
Then here is a simple hack, but not completely automatic like in iTunes.

Step 1: Install LAME {Lame is ain't a mp3 encoder}

from the Synaptic package manager by doing so:

System->Administration->Synaptic Package manager

Type lame in the search box. Then install the package(Fig 1).

Step 2: Install Nautilus Audio converter script

After installing LAME, install 'nautilus audio converter script'.

Type 'nautilus audio' in the search box. Then install the package(Fig 2)

Step 3: Choose file to convert to mp3

After you're done with the installing, choose the file you wish to convert, by right clicking on the desired file. Then hoover over 'scripts' which has the audio converter script installed. Choose 'Audio files converter'(Fig 3).

Step 4: Choose extension

As in this case its mp3(Fig 4)

Step 5: Select quality

By Default it would be 'extreme' and its recommended.

Step 6: Enter meta-tags

If you wish to do so, work around with this, else just click OK.

Step 7: Voila! your files are converted!

Make sure you have the files in /home/XXX/music folder, so that Rhythmbox populates your play-list automatically.

How to cook : 'Broccoli Masala' for Grads and Bachelors!

Hey Grad studs/Bachelors/bachelorets,
bored of eating subways and burritos? then here's a post which gives the recipe to cook an easy to do, delicious and healthy dish: 'Broccoli Masala' .

Requirements:

Cooking oil- 2 to 4 Tb spoons depending on how 'Health' conscious you are!
Diced Onions- from 1 Onion
Diced Tomato- from 1 Tomato
Diced Chillies- from 4-8 depending on how 'HOT' you like your dish!
(cut) Broccoli- from a bunch of 3 crowns
Ginger garlic paste- 2 Tb Spoons
Garam masala- 2 Tb spoons
Chili powder- again depending on depending on how 'HOT' you like your dish! But preferably 2 Tb spoons
Salt- as required

Procedure:

Place a frying pan on the stove top [please switch on the stove ;) ]
Put 2 Tb spoons of Cooking oil
After the oil is heated, put in the diced onions, tomatoes, chilies
Soon after the onions look cooked, add the ginger paste and let it marinate
Now, add the Broccoli pieces
At the same time add some water, enough to cook the raw broccoli
Let the Broccoli cook for a few minutes
Now sprinkle Garam Masala over the broccoli, in a spreading fashion so that covers the contents like a sheet and marinate
Now add Chili powder in the same fashion as in earlier step and allow it to marinate
Sprinkle Salt over the contents with caution as much as required
Now let the broccoli marinate with the Masala
After the broccoli is cooked, this is how it looks-->

Ready to serve Broccoli Masala

Now the Delicious, Healthy (as claimed earlier) Broccoli masala is ready!

Have it with hot Chapthi/Roti, and enjoy your Grad study!

How to get VTU transcripts and PDC

[Edit on July 6th 2011: Apparently, VTU issues PDCs in regional offices, Please check that option, before going ahead with this]

Yet another post on how to get transcripts/PDC from VTU.

Step 1] get DDs of respective amounts for each certifications you need.
Check out from the image below.
You can also get the DDs of specified amounts from the bank there on the VTU campus itself.

Step 2]Travel to Belgaum. VRL, Sugama, KSRTC and some more have night buses to Belgaum.

Step 3]After you reach Belgaum, Get down in Central Bus Terminus (CBT). Get into a local bus that goes to VTU/Santibastwad. Autos are also available and charge around Rs 100-150.

Step 4] After reaching VTU, go to Belgaum Regional Office. Fill out forms for PDC/transcripts etc. Attach DD along with the form. Copies of marks sheets of each semester is required to be attached along the transcripts application.

Step 5] Submit the applications. VTU accepts applications up-to 12 noon only and only two requests per student is given by hand that day the rest will posted to your mailing address.

Step 6] Wait until 4.30PM and collect your things. PDCs are usually given around 3.30PM and transcripts a bit late
.
Step 7] Go back to CBT on a local bus.

Step 8] Go back home!

PS: You may not need to go for accommodation in Belgaum since VTU has pretty decent restrooms on campus itself!

1>Boyz catch hold of a baadige sutu bootu

2>reach ur campus safely with this dress on!
3> take pics with ur buddies next to u
>> start from decent poses to worst. ex: showing finger,or doing a triple H act or something absurd!
4> then take pics along with (each)ur fav henn makkal(HM) of ur class!!!!
5>then take along those HM with u and take pics with staff, preferably giving u some prize,like attendance shortage ;)
6>then upload on FB,Orkut etc etc
7> dont forget to tag each of 'em, especially Henn makkal!
8>make all of ur other mates feel jealous by doing so in step 7!
9>put some caption to the photo album like: EC/Cs/** Rokzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz etc

How to insert Single Landscape Sheets in OpenOffice.org

Although you can this info all around, I thought of blogging this Since I was doing my project report and thought it might help our VTU Studs or someone who needs it....
So here it is:

OpenOffice.org uses page styles to specify the orientation of the pages in a document. For example, to change the page orientation of one or more pages in a document from portrait to landscape in a document, you need to create a page style that uses the landscape orientation, and then apply the page style to the pages.
To Change the Page Orientation of a single sheet to Landscape or Portrait

1.Choose Format - Styles and Formatting.
2.Click the Page Styles icon.
3.Right-click, and choose New.
4.On the Organizer tab page, type a name for the page style in the Name box.
5.In the Next Style box, select the page style that you want to apply to the next page.
To only apply the new page style to a single page, select "Default".
To apply the new page style to all subsequent pages, select the name of the new page style.
6.Click the Page tab.
7.Under Paper format, select Portrait or Landscape.
8.Click OK.

To Use Landscape and Portrait Page Orientation in the Same Document
Before you begin, ensure that you have created a page style that uses landscape page orientation. See To Change the Page Orientation to Landscape or Portrait for details.
1.Click in front of the first character of the paragraph where you want to change the page orientation.
2.Choose Insert - Manual Break.
3.Select Page break.
4.In the Style box, select a page style that uses the landscape or portrait page orientation.

Grub error 15 on a 2 HDD box[solved]

Do you get Error 15(file not found) while loading Grub on your 2 HDD box?
Then here is the solution.

Grub Error 15 is commonly found when Grub is unable to find vmlinuz(the kernel image). In such a case just boot from a live cd and do the following

$sudo grub

this command enters grub,once that is done,enter

find /boot/grub/stage1

This will return the location of the root ex: (hd0,4)

Now you need to edit the Grub's menu.lst
if running through a Ubuntu Live cd then the command:

$sudo gedit /media/disk/boot/grub/menu.lst

menu.lst may look like this:

title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=/dev/sda5 ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic

if this is the case then ,just replace the (hdx,y) with device UUID.

to get the UUID:

$blkid

will give you the uuid of all the partitions on the disk.

search for the partition with ext3/4 and copy it(in my case (hd0,4) /dev/sda5 uuid=.....)

now replace the line in menu.lst where (hdx,y) appears

ex: root (hd0,4)

the entry in menu.lst should look like this after the edit

title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
uuid ee9fd0b7-29c5-42a4-a606-9342fae9523a
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=ee9fd0b7-29c5-42a4-a606-9342fae9523a ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic

observe that even the line with 'kernel' has been replaced with the respective uuid.

now save it and reboot.

and voila! tell me what happens!

How to install Seesmic desktop/Tweet deck on Ubuntu

Ubuntu users who want either Seesmic desktop or Tweet deck on their Ubuntu box here is a small procedure:

Open the Terminal
Use wget to download http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/lin/download/1.5/AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
Set the file to be executable: chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
Run it: sudo ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
Accept any AIR updates
Use wget to download Seesmic Desktop from http://d.seesmic.com/seesmic/SeesmicDesktop-0.2.1.air
On the Ubuntu desktop, not terminal, look under Applications->Accessories or Applications->Other for Adobe AIR Application Installer and run it
Select SeesmicDesktop-0.2.1.air and the normal Seesmic Desktop installer will run

Almost the same procedure for Tweet deck ,once Adobe AIR is installed.

I observed that some people were facing issues while trying to play a Moser Baer (Super DVD) movie DVD on Ubuntu 9.04.
Some times even though all codecs are installed, somehow VLC/totem wont play the DVD. The only suggestion to fix this is to do this:

Go to VLC media player
tools>preferences> videotab
and set the video output to X11 video output.
This *may* help to play those DVDs.

Automount Hard disk on Ubuntu 9.04

I found that Ubuntu 9.04 wasn't auto-mounting hard disk drives on boot.In earlier versions I had to edit /etc/fstab to mount itself on boot.This was quiet tricky as messing with fstab wasn't a good idea.But in this release its lot easier.
In a terminal enter

$sudo apt-get install pysdm

[or it can done through synaptic also]

then in the terminal enter
$pysdm

then the gui pops up and select all the drives you wish to mount on boot and you are all set!

Amarok 2 unable to play audio files on Ubuntu 9.04-Solved

Soon after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04(Review coming soon!) I found that Amarok 2 was unable to play any kind of audio files.

When I opened amarok from a terminal I was getting this error

Some threads suggest to install phonon-xine-backend, but Kubuntu is already shipped with phonon backend.

After posting my problem in launchpad I found this solution
just type this in a command line

sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg
[/code]

then Amarok will be back in full swing!

However I'm not all that satisfied with Amarok 2 as I was with earlier versions.
Any way I hope this helps somebody.

Here is a video which helps you to download .ram files from websites which stream files online like kannadaaudio.com
You will need RealPlayer on Windows and some codecs for GNU/Linux box.

the steps are:
1>click on the song/media file you need to download
2>open it with a text editor
3>copy the link that appears
4>paste the link in your favorite browser
5>save the file
6>after download is over open it with Real player(Totem/Kaffiene)
7>Voila! the file is in your HDD!

Today we successfully inaugurated the EWIT-Free Software Users Group in our campus. The efforts behind it span from as long as 2 years as I know.Long back our seniors did have an un-official LUG, which never met even once!But we some how managed to BOOT the FSUG after 4 semesters of repeated attempts. The weired part about this group is that it was initiated by a set of Electronics students like me.

Our group was inaugurated by Dr.Renuka Prasad and addressed us about the Free Software philosophy and showed us some interesting alternatives to proprietary software.Later Madhusudhan and Santosh(from BMSCE) inspired and motivated us by sharing their experience they had in GSoc and FOSS with us. But the time crunch made the talk shallow.

Totally it turned out to be a good start for our group.In the near future our group plans to promote Free Software in our campus including our hostel.

USB Ubuntu 8.10 install:tutorial

Every time Canonical Inc comes up with a new release candidate of Ubuntu, it keeps getting better. Even with Interpid Ibex 8.10 its no different. This tutorial shows 'How to' install Ubuntu 8.10 on to a flash media and carry it in your pocket. Earlier I had done a 'How to' install Ubuntu 7.10 on a USB which was completely through command line . Now that Ubuntu 8.10 has new feature of doing it through the GUI, I thought it was worth doing a post. The best part about making USB boot disk is that you dont really need to install it to do all this. A simple Live Cd will do the trick. So here it is:

Step1:System->Administration->Create a USB boot disk

Step2:Insert Ubuntu X.XX CD(haven't checked for other distros)

Step3:Insert Flash drive and set space required for persistent feature

Step4:Watch it happening

Step5: After completed reboot from USB or insert USB elsewhere and boot from USB.

Aero India 2009

Aero India, Asia's premier air show and very much awaited event in Bengaluru concluded on 15th February 2009. I've been going to this event since 2001 and this was my fifth time.
Though the spirit levels and enthusiasm in me was a bit debilitated,this time I did manage to go there , that too on time!
Now that the new airport is ready, the road to the IAF station in Yelahanka (where the event takes place) is excellent.

After seeing the show I noticed that this time the Air show did lack some caliber. Unlike earlier versions the number of Jets flying were less and the sorties they did were also less.
The reasons , I inferred was that mainly the interest of Indian Government towards Defense purchases. In 2007 the Govt expressed their desire to purchase few crafts so almost every Aerospace giant thronged to cash in the situation. But when nothing really happened every body seem to have lost interest. This reflected on the Airshow this year. This time the only majors luring the IAF were the Lockheed Martin with their F-16 and F-18 and the Euro fighter Typhoon. These three Jets were the only interested people in selling the crafts, so were very invigorated with their flights.

Aero India 2007(MiG 35)

The rest like Mikoyan-Gurevich(MiG) and Sukhoi weren't all that impressive unlike the earlier versions.
The absence of SAAB's Gripen, BAE's Hawk/Sea harrier made the show a lacsture performance.
The Surya Kiran team- the show stealers every time didn't manage to do it this time because of the ailing team who were mourning the loss of one of the team member who died in an accident while training in Bidar,Karnataka.

But the trade exhibition didn't let my hopes down as it was very good, with the German airforce-Luftwaffe participating in huge number for the very first time in Aero India impressed me.

Although all these factors did hinder the show's attraction it did impress freaks like me.

Audio Switch- A Failure story

As I'm a music freak, I have different music on different machines of mine(a desktop and a laptop), but I have only one 2.1 channel sound system which has to be shared by both machines, for which I need to switch between both by plugging and unplugging to a machine each time. This turned out be a huge problem as I have to reach out to the wires plug in/out. So I thought of making a manual Audio switch which would help me with this problem.
First I came up with the Version 0.1 of the switch.
Its summarized below:

Advantages:

Easy to handle.

Disadvantages:

It was very unstable because it wasn't mounted on a PCB.
The sound output was not stereo mixed because of a design error.
Was very noisy.

Then I came up with the second version named 0.1.1(since no change in design), which is summarized below:

Advantages:

Was easier to handle than the old one.
Noise was reduced to a great extent.
Was stable as it was mounted on a PCB.
Stereo quality sound output.

Disadvantages:

Was prone to loose contacts and internal resistances of the extension chords.
Instead of providing two separate channels, the switch was multiplexing both inputs, which turned out to be a Disaster!

In the end both versions didn't satisfy my needs and the Audio switch turned to be a big FAILURE!

Solar Eclipse 2009

This year's very first eclipse, the solar eclipse was visible in Bengaluru. This time the eclipse wasn't as intense as last time(check this out) which happened in 2007 but it was fun watching the celestial event from my home. I wish I could see a total lunar eclipse from my home at least once in my life time.

Interfaced LCD on an ATMega8!

After slogging out for more than three years I finally managed to boot the LCD panel on an ATMega8!

This winter I was determined to boot the LCD somehow. When I was crawling on the WWW I found this guy's code/tutorial from
extereme electronics which turned out to be very useful. He has explained each step in the interfacing process.
Now since that I haven't done anything great I wont give much details on the interfacing, rather I would like to give the link to the tutorial. The tutorial is here.

In the end I would like to tell that seeing the LCD boot was a big boost to my morale.

What happens in a Movie theatre

After a very long time, today I'd been to a movie theater to watch "Masth Maja Madi"(review coming shortly ;) , see the right pane for Moo-wee-ter rating).

Surprisingly, this time I was inside the hall on time and was eagerly waiting for the movie to start. But the movie didn't start on time and instead kept playing trailers and ads.
I know that if a theater needs to survive it needs to attract its customers back, so he does his bit to make us go back by playing trailers and ads but off late I think it's being overdone, which kills the movie going spirit. Now I wont keep typing some nonsense to convey it, rather I choose to show it through a video.
Even I felt the same way Homer felt.

Richard M Stallman the father of the Free software revolution was Live in Bengaluru on 13th Dec and I am proud to say that I was there!

After much scepticism about visiting the event, and my eagerness to see RMS hooked on to his laptop ,I was able to finally go to the event, all thanks to my luck that my labs got over on 12th dec.I was also able to meet some of my Foss enthusiast friends there.

It was an inspirational, motivating talk just for anybody and everybody.Apart from speaking about the free software revolution and the GNU project, Mr RMS who is considered rude some times but logical all the times told why Linux is not just Linux and why it should be called GNU/Linux and why Linus Torovalds and his team alone didn't deserve all the credit. This part was amazing. As a Linux user myself for many years now, even I was not aware of the fact that I should be calling it GNU/Linux.

Then he spoke about how DRM is like digital handcuffs and a threat to our "Freedom",while also trying to make the talk very humorous with his stereotypes, jokes etc.

Then came the real reason why he was here, to release the his book " Free software , free society : selected essays of Richard M Stallman" which has been translated to kannada as
ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ತಂತ್ರಾಂಶ :ಆರ್ ಎಮ್ ಎಸ್ ರವರ ಆಯ್ದ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಗಳು.
I request anybody who is interested in FSF to please help translate this document to Kannada.

And then came the much awaited moment, the photo session! Although the disastrous moment was that when I discovered that I hadn't took my camera :( but then managed to fall in the eyes of the shutter bugs. Though I dont have any of the photos with me now, I would soon be updating it here. And oh, I almost forgot- Happy Hacking!

Pick and place remote controlled robot

This is my latest venture. This is a pick and place, remote controlled robot. It took me around six hours to build this from Tamiya DIY kit and another two hours to make it work properly.

Its grip is good as it can hold both a table tennis sized ball and a kick ball.
But the gear boxes have some teething problems which is why some times it refuses to move ahead[as seen on video ;) ].

I wish to roll out a Line follower soon after this, but as I'm facing few blockades which is why I'm unable to do so.
Hope it rolls out soon.

Hello ARM COREs!

This is my first venture on ARM cores. After trying a bit, I succeded programming the CORE on an LM3s811 evaluation kit.
This wasn't that hard compared to programming the Atmega core(see this to know how I struggled/struggling to program the MCU).
The text you see is on a 96x16 OLED screen. The chip you see on the left is the LM3s811 MCU. And its fun to program the core on Keil!

The new Desktop effect on Compiz and a KDE 4.1 Desktop sporting new look.

This weekend (1st Nov) I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10, which took a staggering 10 hours to update my box which hosts both KDE and Gnome. So I thought to review Ubuntu as a simple end user. Here it is

Firstly the things I liked:
Amazingly fast boot/shutdown time
KDE 4.1
Good looking art work for both KDE/Gnome
Slightly new Compiz effects
Then comes the things which make Ubuntu 'Rocking' always:
Superb driver support
Easy up-gradation/installation feature
Quick fresh install feature
Vast repositories
Amazing media rendering/acceleration with Amarok
In the end some things which makes any Ubuntu user 'Irksome'/'Pissed off'!
Kaffeine is gone for now.I dont know why KDE ditched Kaffeine and replaced it with some 'Dragon player'.
Hell long updating time! It took around 10 hours for me to update. I've seen even Vista taking such humongous time to update but I like Ubuntu and I want to it to make me feel 'GOOD' ;)
Initial glitches with sound I face every time I upgrade to new release.
Dirty looking GTK apps on KDE.
A difficult to remember keyboard layout for Kannada( in general Unicode).

Psycho-Reviewed:Watch it at Thy risk!

The must awaited Psycho which had raised to fame through Raghu Dixit's music,is finally out. The story revolves around a Psychopath,schizophrenic person who loves a lady in his Rehab period.

Warning: Spoilers about to help you!

The story starts with the hero running like Tom Hanks in 'Forest Gump' all around with background music something similar to Ramstein's , while he tries to net his lady love. When she's about to fall for him she gets to know he's a Psychopath,schizophrenic person, which makes her crazy. When Psycho gets to know this, all his rehab goes in the gutter and dies. Seeing this the lady love also becomes a Psycho!(sheesh!)

The casting did not deserve all the hype generated by the team to keep it a secret till the end. Film has lots of loose ends, narration is worse.
And also watch out for the nerve wracking yelling of "paaavaanaa" all through .
The only credit to the team is for the camera work and Raghu's amazing Music.
In the end it isnt worth a try in the theaters. I suggest any one who wants to watch this movie to just buy a copy of the audio and settle for it.

My rating for the movie is a Two on Five- 2/5

This summer, the much needed water level indicator for our home was succesfully designed,tested and implemented.
It is designed to indicate 3 levels in the overhead water tank.
It beeps using a buzzer when the tank is either full or empty.

BJP-can we get good Governance?

Five years of unstable governance came to an end with BJP emerging the single largest party in the 2008 elections.
After the fractured mandate from the 2004 elections , Karnataka's development has gone to dogs with the coalition politics and puppeteering by the Gowdas.

Many would argue that the BJP won because of a sympathy wave etc. But what ever the other parties have to say, nobody cares. People of Karnataka have chosen BJP to rule the state.
Now that the BJP guys have come to power they should stop celebrating their victory and start focusing on the state's development, and not to appease some factions of the vote bank by announcing some more reservations(its already 49.9% in higher education, remember?), or getting into ugly scams, increasing the corruption rate and indulging in dirty,cheap politics.

If you wanna come back once again , Do some good,great and memorable like solving CET tussle between the Govt and the private institutions and the Cauvery dispute.

And please remember "Government's work is GOD's work" or rather
"ಜನ ಸೇವೆಯೆ ಜನಾರ್ಧನ ಸೇವೆ" and not as always "Filling up your pocket is people's fate!"

How to:Retrieve unsaved Youtube videos

The last time if you had just quit your browser without saving the videos you just watched using Unplug,youtube-dl,clive etc on Mozilla firefox, this post tells you how to retrieve it.

Step1:Point your browser's URL to "about:cache"(w/o quotes).Here you see two entries Memory cache device,Disk cache device. Click on List Cache Entries
under Disk cache devices.

Step2: Here you find many entries. Do a search for "Youtube"(by using ctrl+f).

if you find something like this:
Key: http://lax-v172.lax.youtube.com/get_video?

then click on it.("get video" indicates a video stored on the disk cache)

Step3: The entry shows where the file is stored. Go to the address(in windows) or do a

$ cp source destination

on Linux systems.

Step4: Rename the file as "filename.flv". and watch it with your favorite player.

This should even work for Mozilla Firefox 3b which doesn't support many add-ons at least for now.

And also this technique works for all most all "User submitted" video sites like www.tvliveshows.com etc.

Sound lost on uprgrading ubuntu 8.04-solved

After I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04, I lost sound on my comp.
When I checked with kernel options like

$lspci
$lshw -c sound

every thing seemed to be fine, but still I wasn't able to hear any sound.
Then just tried this command

$alsamixer

and increased all the values to maximum. Then

Bingo! here comes the music

Ps: caution with those values as making those high gives an ugly squeak in your speakers.

Driven by a Single motor-1.5V DC
Two gears driving the crank
and one worn gear driving all those gears.

Must admit that has appreciable torque which makes it real fast.

How To hack Philips DVP 3166

Recently I got a Philips DVP 3166. When I tried playing a my favorite movie "Me, Myself and Irene" 's original disc on it , the player denied showing me "wrong region" error. I thought It was something to do with the NTSC/PAL system( how dumb ain't it?) then when it didn't work I promptly did a search which gave me this hack.
just follow these steps for a successful hack.

1) Open the Setup menu then go to the Preference page.
if the player is skipping it then press stop twice and try again.
2) Press 1 3 8 9 3 1 on the keypad of the Remote Control.
3) Options will be available to be selected.
4) Press UP / DOWN key to select the desire Region Code.
5) Press OK.
Note:Region 0 = "playable in all regions" - aka "region free" (Also known informally as "All regions")

then I inserted the disc once again...... Bingo! the Disc started playing.....

Though I saw this movie 4 days ago, I'm witting this post now because of the time required for me to recover from the shock it had caused. I wouldn't like to write a very huge article in the name of a review, so I've made it very simple for you to understand it, thus I have added 2 clips.

After the movie starts after say some 20-30 Minutes your state would be definitely like this (a very small clip) .

After the movie ends this is how you will definitely feel. Either to kill the director or the one who suggested you to watch this movie.(another very small one)

In the end I would like to rate this movie a 2/5.
The 2 is given only for the good cinematography and not for anything else!

This paper describes a Novell, fantastic,cost effective method to save Tax payers money.

Abstract: After the NEW Karnataka Govt lead by Shri BS Yediyurappa collapsed taking help from the Gowda clan the state is heading for snap polls. However it may sound the best solution to the present situation, but not so to the Tax payers. Why should the Tax payer's money be wasted on some politicians who do all sorts of 'crap'py things without doing their actual job of leading the state? So here's a plan, Let those politicians go to polls how many times ever they want but let them shell out the money from their Illegal assets. The money spent from the state/national treasury could instead be used to some other good works. In this way we can avoid the polling of tax payers money and also reduce the filthy politics.

conclusion: when implemented this will help India to a great extent and could even make us a super power with in 2020!

USB Ubuntu 7.10 install from Linux: This tutorial enables you to install, boot and run Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) from USB. In addition to installing Ubuntu to a USB device and then booting Ubuntu from USB, this tutorial will enable you to automatically save your changes and settings back to the stick and further restore them on each boot using a second "casper-rw" persistent partition. The tutorial was written for those already familiar with working from Ubuntu or another Linux desktop environment. If you do not have access to or prefer not to use a Windows computer, this Ubuntu Linux on a stick tutorial is for you.

Ubuntu 7.10 takes slightly longer to boot than previous releases. However, once it's up and running, it performs much better than running from the Live CD.

USB Ubuntu 7.10 Essentials:

Ubuntu7.10 ISO
CD Burner
1GB USB flash drive (2GB+ recommended)
U710fix.tar

Ubuntu 7.10 USB installation tutorial:

Hint: You can drastically speed up the install by Copying (Ctrl+c) and Pasting (Ctrl+v) commands into the terminal instead of manually typing them out. With the exception of replacing X with your drive letter.

Grab the Ubuntu 7.10 ISO and burn it to a CD
Insert the CD and your USB flash drive
Reboot your computer into Ubuntu from the Live CD
Open a terminal window and type sudo su
Type fdisk -l to list available drives/partitions. Note which device is your flash drive (example: /dev/sda) Throughout this tutorial, replace x with your flash drive letter. For example, if your flash drive is sdb, replace x with b.
Type umount /dev/sdx1
Type fdisk /dev/sdx
type p to show the existing partition and d to delete it
type p again to show any remaining partitions (if partitions exist, repeat the previous step)
type n to make a new partition
type p for primary partition
type 1 to make this the first partition
hit enter to use the default 1st cylinder
type +750M to set the partition size
type a to make this partition active
type 1 to select partition 1
type t to change the partition filesystem
type 6 to select the fat16 file system
type n to make another new partition
type p for primary partition
type 2 to make this the second partition
hit enter to use the default cylinder
hit enter again to use the default last cylinder
type w to write the new partition table

Type umount /dev/sdx1 to ensure the 1st partition is unmounted
Type mkfs.vfat -F 16 -n ubuntu710 /dev/sdx1 to format the first partition
Type umount /dev/sdx2 just to ensure the 2nd partition is unmounted
Type mkfs.ext2 -b 4096 -L casper-rw /dev/sdx2 to format the second partition
Remove and Re-insert your flash drive
Back at the terminal, type apt-get update
Type apt-get install syslinux mtools
Type syslinux -sf /dev/sdx1
Type cd /cdrom
Type cp -rf casper disctree dists install pics pool preseed .disk isolinux/* md5sum.txt README.diskdefines ubuntu.ico casper/vmlinuz casper/initrd.gz /media/ubuntu710/
Ignore any "cannot create symbolic link" errors
Type cd /home/ubuntu
Type wget pendrivelinux.com/downloads/U710fix.zip
Type unzip -o -d /media/ubuntu710/ U710fix.zip
Restart your computer, set your BIOS or Boot menu to boot from the USB device and reboot again.

You should now have a USB Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon flash drive that should automatically save your changes, restoring them on boot.

Note: If your having trouble getting Ubuntu to boot, your memory stick may have a corrupted MBR. To repair the MBR of your USB device, at the terminal type sudo apt-get install lilo then type lilo -M /dev/sdx (replacing x with the letter of your flash device)

A huge resposibility accomplished successfully!

After My parents returned back to home on 17th Oct from Theertha yatre , My responsibility of taking care of our house has been successfully accomplished!

But during the tenure I did two blunders.

1>One day I forgot to close the local water tap which turned our house into a water pool! however I cleaned the whole mess, spending a whole one and a half hour trying to clean it.

2>Another day when I was trying to cook myself a decent meal using the steam cooker, due to some technical snag in it , it just blew up in front of me ! Fortunately the safety valve saved me from tasting disaster. The metal in it just melted down and came out. This halted all the kitchen activities for almost half a day.
However that wasn't my fault since it was a technical snag!
Even after doing these blunders I managed to keep our home intact! The house is safe and clean(that's very important!).

After successfully accomplishing the responsibility, I've now earned the certificate that I'm a GROWN UP!

The Torture called Sivaji

This is an interesting post I found on this blog.
he's a Chennai based blogger who calls himself 'ada-pavi'.
This review of Sivaji the boss actually tells what I wanted to say 2months ago when I saw Sivaji.

In one word, Sivaji sucks. The movie can be divided into the post interval and pre interval portions. When Rajini romances Sherya it sucks, its plain unwatchable. And the movie is loaded with Rajini’s usual style. He has lost it, his style too now sucks, its unwatchable.

Now there is a 60 year old man. As is the case with any 60 year old man, Rajini’s face resembles Indian roads. To make him look younger, extensive make up is used, the make up sucks. For two reasons, first every time a close up of his face is shown, it looks like a wall which has been painted with cheap whitewash. Now this wall if it rains will absorb water and some portions will be lighter than the others. That’s how Rajini’s make looks.

Another fall out of this make up is that his face becomes expressionless. How is it possible to express when one has white cement on their face? When Rajini romances Sherya, he uses his trademark style. To carry it off it requires his face to be expressive. He is an expressive actor, but with white cement on his face, none what so ever is visible. Its terrible and plain unwatchable. In Pudhu Kavithai, Thambiku Endha Ooru, Nallavanuku Nalavan, even Padayappa there are closeup shots of Rajini’s face, and the expression is visible. This is even in scenes where he sight-adichifies the heroine, that expressive face is now missing. Rajini is a shadow of his former self.

Pre-interval, its not even worth writing about. This movie has one of the most pathetically scripted comedy scenes ever in a Rajini movie, plain torture.

In the post interval it’s the usual masala chase sequences. That is entertaining, its watchable. But the hype over Rajini and his style in the movie makes me want to puke. There is too much emphasis on Rajini and his Superstar status. Every bloody scene reinforces Rajini’s super star status, and the need show his style. The beauty with his style, be it the swagger or the smoking or the punch dialogues was that it seamlessly blended in with his character, Rajini’s status never stood out, here his status as superstands out in every scene, it kills the movie. The previous movie where Rajini’s status stood out was Baba, and we all know the status, with white cement on his face, Sivaji might follow Baba’s status. What is even more audacious is Rajini comparing himself to MGR. Mottai Boss says M G Ravichandran, MGR, clearly indicating he is as big as MGR. That is audacious, MGR even today, 20 years after his death can win elections. The only reason JJ wins in some areas of south TN is because voters vote for the “Rettai Elai” the symbol of MGR, not for JJ. Rajini can never match that feat. Both MGR and Rajini share some common traits, their loyal fan base. Towards the later end of his career, only MGR fans could sit through his movies, Rajini now is in that stage of his career, only those who want to see him on screen can sit through his movies, apart from this they have nothing in common. Rajini is no MGR.

Songs? Shankar’s grandeur has killed them. I feel like puking, the picturisations suck.

Unless one is a Rajini veriyan, stay away. Even for a veriyan, my advice would be get a DVD of Rajinis 80s movies, and watch them. Rajini rocks in them. Now he should stop acting and play with his grandchildren. Or else if he acts, he should act as an old man. That’s what makes Padayappa rock, Rajini with the beard and Kurta rocks. None of that is there in Sivaji.

Actually, a long time fan of Rajini, who has seen his movies from the Aborva Ragangal, would feel let down. Ratha kaneer varum. Sivaji magnifies all the short comings of Rajinikanth. The Rajinikanth who acted in Padayappa, Baasha, Annamalai, Mr Barath, Nallavanuku Nallavan, Naan Maahan Allai, Thani Kattu Raja is dead. The Rajini in Sivaji is a pitiable shadow of his former self, yet he tries to act like his former self. Its sad. Rajini’s time is up, he should ideally pass the baton onto the next generation of actors, still carrying the baton is terrible. Or else he should accept his age and act in movies as a 50 year old, a-la Padayappa where in second half, as an old man he rocks. Now as a young man, Rajini Sucks, plain sucks.

I wonder whether the Executive Producer S.P Muthuraman must have been sleeping while working on this movie. This guy knows how to write a good script, and he has directed some memorable Rajini movies like Muruttu Kalai and Netrikan. He should have had the sense to read the script and clean it up, because the script is by Shankar. Shankar is an idiot who restricts to just one issue and recycles his script, so its understandable he will write bullshit, but Muthuraman is no idiot, the bugger should have cleaned up the script, the only explanation for him not doing so is that he was probably sleeping or Shanker being arrogant decided not to use Muthuraman's knowledge during the making of Sivaji.

In one word, Sivaji Sucks! Its Terrible and Plain unwatchable. Sivaji is just one notch above Baba, it has to be amongst Rajini’s worst movies. This movie is strictly for those who just want to see Rajinikanth on screen. Im sure a two hour documentary tracing Rajini’s career released in theatres would be more watchable than this crap.

The movie is an insult to the vibrant tamil flim industry which churns out movies like Mozhi and Chennai 600028. The producer and director assumed that with Rajini on screen and a pre-release hype, there will be enough idiots willing to watch the movie and therefore it will make money, and issues like script, dialogue acting dont really matter. I strongly believe that any creative venture has to be driven by the burning desire to engage in that venture. Movies should be made because the all the parties involved have the burning desire to make the movie. Once it is driven by money, the quality drops, actually there is no quality. Using this logic, one can conclude that the driving force to make Sivaji for all those involved was money and not the desire to make a good movie. This clearly is visible in the end product, which sucks.

PS: If one wants entertainment, and can stand TR on screen, Veeraswamy is way more entertaining than Sivaji, Sivaji is torture. If you want to kill someone, and the person is not a Rajini Veriyan, buy them a ticket for Sivaj

Tamilnadu Youths deprived!

On 11th October 2007 the Karnataka Governor (who's ruling us now....) declared holiday on behalf of the Mourning of Bommai's death(The heaven holds the faithful departed) who was the then CM of karnataka . As a part of the glorious student life I enjoyed the holiday.

Since two decades there are many CMs coming and in our state due to political turmoil, dirty politics etc. So when each of these Dudes die we get a holiday!

But the poor, unfortunate Tamilnadu counterparts can get only two holidays at the most!
The reason being that Tamilnadu has only two CMs alive right now. In every election the Dudes get either Dummi akka(ಡುಮ್ಮಿ ಅಕ್ಕ) or Kurudanidhi(ಕುರುಡಾನಿಧಿ) as their CM. Whats the use of it kanna ?

When they pass away the TN students can get a maximum of two days holiday thats it! But we karanataka youths..... can get so many holidays since we have so many CMs in the list, first being(the list has been overwritten after Bommai's death)Devegowda :p.
So the karnataka Students are luckier than the TN kiddos.... ha ha ha ha ha....

My first Hardware hack!

Yeah a hardware hack!
Yesterday I saw an absurd thing. When my mobile phone which was kept near a digital radio(its digital since it can be switched on and off with a press of a button) started ringing the Radio suddenly switched on! Then when I tried it for many times with some more phones, it worked!
However I don't know the reason why it happened like that. The experts reading this post could help me with it.
This can be used for many purposes both useful and destructive...

A similar thing happens with iPod also. Whenever a a mobile phone kept near a switched on iPod receives a radio signal it acts bit weired. While playing a song it just gets paused and within a jiffy gets switched off. The reason behind it..... again I don't know.
so Expert opinion in need.

After experimenting with all these I decided this was my First hardware hack!

India's growth hindered by yet another cricket series!

The Indian population being a die hard fan of cricket, hinders India's development by watching this hopeless game. Here's the shocking facts with statistics:

considering half of the Indian population to be watching a cricket match(of 50 overs):

50 crores(500 X 10^6 or 500 E 6)

one cricket match roughly takes place for:

8 hours

so when this population watches a cricket match for 8 hours continuously:

500 E 6 X 8=4 E 9 hours of work power is wasted!

that translates to:

168.98 E 6 equivalent days of work power waste!

or

462.96 E 3 equivalent years of work power waste!

Considering the "Loose all time" trend of the Indian cricket team it is not guaranteed that all these hours are *spent* happily! so the time invested is obviously a waste not only for the country's economy but also WRT the viewer who is dissatisfied at the end of the game.

And also considering pre&post match analysis and discussions some more time is wasted!

Thus a humble request to all those who watch the lotus eaters game
please help making India a developed nation atleast by 2020 with your valuable work power.

Wild life photography!

My many day dream of becoming a wild life photographer finally came true with this picture.
This was taken near the the river side of "Kumudvathi" in Maasoor,Shivamogga Karnataka.
The best part was the Deer didn't run away seeing me. It gave a good pose so that I could get a good picture. So thank you deer!

Yaksha as you all know was the one who questioned Dharmaraya when the Pandavas were in Vanavasa. Yaksha was the disguise of Yama Dharmaraya who wanted to test Pandavas.
Then he was the one to ask Questions, but today Teja(me!) is disguised as Yaksha who would rather tries to answer questions!

Recently I've become the top scorer of the tech quizzing website "boiledbeans".
Intitally when the scoring started I was in the 2nd place and tried to maintain it. But for a brief period of time I declined to the 3rd place due to some technical snags with my internet connection.
But then when i returned back after answering a question correctly I jumped to first spot!
Now as you can see in the image I'm topping the charts! But it wont be easy to maintain it. and all these hype is only short lived!

A "How to" install Linux tutorial for new bees....by a Linux enthusiast

I am going to write a very basic HowTo for those who are willing to use Linux. I assume you already know and use Windoze XP/98. Though I cannot guarantee that every concept in Linux will relate to that in windows analogically. There can be many new commands, procedures to be followed and concepts, while learning Linux for the first time.
So here it goes

First of all allocate some space for installing Linux on your hard disk. You may use this tool to resize you partition, make some free space(say 10GB) and use that free space for Linux. Discussing how to partition your hard disk is out of scope, just make some free space in your extended partition by resizing logical drives. Then you will create SWAP partition(logical) in that space which will be typically of double the size of you RAM( If your RAM is 256MB, keep your SWAP 512MB approx.) Next you will create EXT3 partition(logical) of size around 9GB(10GB-512MB). Now thats done, partitioning part is over.

Its time to decide which Linux flavor you wish to install. For the first timers, Ubuntu(Kubuntu/Xubuntu) is recommended. Though you are free to try any other flavors listed below:
Fedora
Vector
Slackware ( ~ - ^ )
Debian

Download ISO image and burn it to CD/DVD. If you have very less bandwidth or limited download you can give me blank CD and I will return it to you with one of the flavors of your choice (currently I have slackware12DVD, Debian3.1CDs, Ubuntu7.04Cd, VectorLinux5.8SOHO CD etc)

Now its time to boot your install CD. Put it in drive, enable CD booting in BIOS settings and set priority to CD before your hard disk. Reboot, the CD will load its default kernel. At the boot prompt(if any) hit Enter.

Later part varies according to the flavor. In slackware installation is very straightforward if you have done partitioning beforehand. I will discuss the ubuntu method here. Most probably you will have Ubuntu Live CD, where you will get a nice GUI after booting. Click on Install icon on dektop. And just folllow the procedure. Its very simple. But at one point, it will ask about partitioning, select the option which says 'Manually set the partitioning'. Then you can assign the SWAP system on SWAP partition and the ROOT filesystem on the EXT3 partition you've just created. When the installation is complete you will probably reboot your pc and then Grub will appear on you screen. Grub is a bootloader, used for multi-booting with different OSs. Now you will have a complete Linux system with you, and surely you can play with it.
